Generalization Through Problem Solving and Creating.

Outline: During the course you will be able to explore the way from easy to more complex problem sets. You will get to understand and deal by yourself with generalization by solving real problems and interesting mathematical exercises. I have prepared a work package to solve, covering the whole range of tasks from easy to difficult problems. Our main goal will be to work out some problems and solutions together. We will go along the way starting from the very beginning with easy exercises and by the end we will get to sophisticated but still solvable problems. We will mainly focus on colouring problems and geometric transformation. To make it handy and get even closer to the problem sets we can gain experiment through folding and sewing some polyhedrons. Furthermore we will go into the topic of probability theory and statistics which are my main fields of interest and subject. During the course you will work in pairs and in small groups so that we can gather the different experiences and integrate it to form a common knowledge.

Biographical details:
I have a 25 year of practice in teaching mathematics in Hungary. In the first 15 years of my career I worked at the Teacher Training College of ELTE currently working in the Mathematics Teaching and Education Center of Eötvös Lóránd University. Although I graduated as a mathematician I have always been teaching math in different courses for a broad range of students. I authored two books (eg.: Probability for Everybody) and I was a contributor of curricula development for different levels as well. You also find me as a lector for several mathematics textbooks.
